If I had pondered it long enough I might have guessed that there was probably a word for the study of fruit. But I never would have guessed that there are in fact two words for it’
Pomology is the study of edible fruit and Carpology is the study of fruit whether they are edible or not.
I think the practical application of Pomology must be more enjoyable than the practical application of Carpology. How do you check whether a fruit is edible or not? Presumably by trying to eat it! I imagine their work would be like a regular Bush Tucker Trial out of ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’
