Did you ever wonder how barbiturates were developed? No? nor did I. But I’m sure that you’d like to know wouldn’t you?

Barbiturates were in fact developed using a mixture of apples and human urine by Adolf Von Baeyer back in the 1860s. They were named in part after a German waitress who provided the urine for their experimental production! I assume that her surname wasn’t Iturate. If she married a Mr Smith and had grandchildren I wonder if she became Granny Smith?

About justwilliam1959
I've been on the planet for a more than 60 years and I've lost all my hair but not my enthusiasm for life, my wife, reading and music! I started my first blog; With Just A Hint Of Mayhem in February 2009. In May 2011 I began two sister blogs to that first one; With Just A Hint Of Amelia and With Just A Hint Of Learning. Although those sister blogs have somewhat gone to sleep recently. A while later I also added the more random Stars In My Glasses to the family :-) Feel free to check them all out and let me know what you think!
